Irregular beings, sometimes referred to as backward spiritual beings, are seeking access to sleeping human beings and humans who are slowly vacating their physical bodies as earthly evolution continues.
These beings are actually planetary spirits that have lagged behind in their development. Rudolf Steiner describes them and their origin in the lecture series, CW 219, Man and the World of the Stars. There are Ahrimanic beings associated with the Moon, Venus, and Mercury that now inhabit the watery and earthly elements of our planet. Other beings, Luciferic beings, originally from the upper planets of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, now inhabit the airy and warmth elements.
They approach either when the individual is asleep or, in our time, as we slowly vacate our bodies, which is now a part of our normal evolution.
These irregular beings wish to keep humanity tied to the Earth: they wish to impede the forward evolution of our living Earth and humanity. Their ultimate goal is to destroy Earth’s transition to its next incarnation as the Jupiter Incarnation. This incarnation is mentioned in the Bible as the ‘New Jerusalem’, the City of Glass.
There is currently a great battle going on for the very body, soul, and spirit of the human being. This battle is occurring in the deeper recesses of the human being. That this is occurring is hidden from most people. However, it is incumbent on every human being to develop the courage to face this situation, to detect these beings, and understand what can be done about them. This is the reality underlying our current state of affairs.

“Human health and our planet Earth are deteriorating. We have reached and passed the apex of our earthly growth and development and are now on the downward decline of the Earth Incarnation. Human beings can no longer fully penetrate the deteriorating physical bodies. The last epoch of human development, the Fourth Epoch, known as the Greek and Roman civilizations, saw the most perfect development of the human body, with its balanced relationship to the etheric world. We once received our spiritual insights from Nature and from our bodies, but this is becoming increasingly difficult.
“With every incarnation, we are withdrawing more and more from the body, so that we are now at the point where we are beginning to hover above it. As this happens, unoccupied space is created in the body, and unless this is filled with something, these backward beings will enter. As Earthly evolution progresses, human beings will be unable to develop the soul in parallel with their bodies. An individual could still be good, but they are now inside a body destined for evil.”
Think of recent crimes in the news in which the individuals insist that they were there but did not do it. All evidence points to the individual, but the human being insists that ‘something happened, I did not do this’. Previously, this could have been a case of simple lying, but people are becoming increasingly complex. In no way can this be an excuse for the person involved. There is still responsibility on the part of the person whose situation led to it. What have they neglected to do that their bodies became instruments for evil?
How are we to deal with these situations?

“One of the things we should encourage in our Anthroposophical Society is to learn to understand human beings today; the human being is becoming ever more complex.
“With the human soul withdrawing more and more from the body, the body is in danger of filling with something else—demonic beings. If people are not prepared to take up spiritual knowledge, the body will be filled with Ahrimanic powers. Humanity is facing a destiny where the body may be filled with demonic powers…there will be people in the future who are seemingly good, but their bodies will be empty to such an extent that a powerful Ahrimanic spirit can live in them. One will be meeting Ahrimanic demons.
“Human beings will not be what they appear to be. The individual will be deep down inside, and outwardly, one will get a totally different picture. This shows the complexity of life to come. It is reasonable to say that there will be situations in the future when it will be difficult to know who one is dealing with.
“Because people are not able to have ideas or concepts about the true nature of things, they are sliding more and more deeply into chaos. Chaos is arising because reality has changed. We must develop concepts and ideas that match the complexity of today’s situations.
“One of the things we should encourage in our Anthroposophical Society is to ask all striving students to seek a deeper understanding of these times, the demonic beings, and the human being living now in our Fifth post-Atlantean Epoch. A spiritual movement must exist to provide people with the concepts and knowledge about today's reality.”
