PAINT COLOR WHIRLS
The Color Whirl exercises were the first exercises given by Rudolf Steiner to help painters experience the lively quality of color. Through following the ideas of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, “that no color can be regarded as resting or standing still but rather that each is increasing in enhancement or intensity and is unstoppable,” we can discover this inner life of colors. The Color Whirl exercises allow painters to immerse themselves more deeply in the inwardly striving, moving quality of color. These are fundamental qualities of color. Rudolf Steiner considered the Color Whirl exercises as a beginning for the renewal of the art of painting. These and more exercises were first collected by Hilde Boos-Hamburger.
Instructions are given in the following pages for painting the Color Whirls.
