The RCARA currently supports painting classes in south Texas for local children who do not have the opportunity to experience painting in the public school system or have the resources to pay for classes.
In the Public Library of Mercedes Texas, we hold story time once a month and have an artistic session with Stockmar plant color block colors. In these sessions children between the ages of 5 and 10 years have the opportunity to experience the wonder of colors layering on their paper and forming new colors. Beginning Saturday July 12th for six months on Saturday afternoons, the RCARA will sponsor Flower painting at the Library for children ages 6 to 9 years old.
The RCARA has donated a set of our color stories to this library. These stories contain color build up motifs so that the children actually see forms developing out of the color.
Included in these stories are verses from Rudolf Steiner and indications where the parents can find more information about his painting impulse.
In 2012, 2013 and spring of 2014, the RCARA donated brushes and paints for free painting classes at the Mercedes First United Methodist Church. Twice a week, children came to painting class and were able to paint two exercises in the wet in wet method. See the Gallery for examples of their work.
